High level Meeting on Transport, Environment and Health adopts “Amsterdam declaration” on Transport Choices for our Health, Environment and Prosperity.
Ministers, high-level officials from Ministries of Transport, Environment and Health and non-governmental organizations of 38 countries gathered in Amsterdam on 22 and 23 January 2009 to renew their political commitment oriented towards sustainable transport, environment and health issues.
Slovak delegation was lead by state secretary of two ministries, Mr. Jaduš, from the Environment and Mr. Klačko from the Health Ministries. The aim of the Meeting was to carve out a common vision on how to turn the challenges of the current financial crisis into opportunities for an integration of environment, health and transport policies.
At the close of the meeting, delegations adopted the “Amsterdam Declaration” as a soft instrument, committing countries to achieve four priority goals on safe, efficient healthy and environmentally sustainable transport:
