FIA race director Charlie Whiting has lifted the lid on the Australian Grand Prix controversy, which threatens to cut short Lewis Hamilton's season.
Whiting claims he sensed the Briton was lying to stewards presiding over the Melbourne inquiry as they tried to ascertain whether or not Hamilton had allowed Toyota's Jarno Trulli to pass him during the safety car period.
The emergence of fresh evidence four days later, in Sepang, snared Hamilton and McLaren sporting director Dave Ryan, with the former going on to apologise to Whiting and the latter sacked from his position with the team.
