The Academy Awards, mostly know as the Oscars, are presented by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The Oscars are the main national film award in the USA and are highly recognized in other countries too. They are given in 24 categories and you can see the list of the categories along with the nominations on this website: http://www.oscar.com/nominees/?pn=nominees . The awards are also broadcasted in the television. The first awards were held at the Hotel Roosvelt in Holywood on May the 16-th in 1929 and since then everything has changed several times. More categories were added and the locality, were the awards took place, changed too. Since 2002 the Kodak Theater has become the first permanent home of the awards. Nobody really knows where the name Oscar came from. One former employee stated in her biography that the awards were named after her fist husband – Oscar. She told her colleagues that the small statue looked like her ex-husband and since this incident they have all called the whole awards just Oscars. Nobody knows if this story is true or if she made it all up but nobody really cares. The Oscars are a great event and everybody enjoys it – the actors and the onlookers too. So watch it tomorrow!
